Overwatch Just Changed How Tanks Work – And It’s Already Chaos
March 26, 2026

Overwatch Patch 10.5.0 (March 2026) is now live, and it brings one of the most significant tank role overhauls since the launch of Overwatch 2. Blizzard has introduced a new tank passive, reworked several heroes, and made quality-of-life improvements across the board. The Overwatch March 2026 patch notes highlight Blizzard’s continued commitment to refining the 5v5 format.
Here is the complete breakdown of everything that changed.

New Tank Passive: Unstoppable
The headline change introduces a new tank passive called “Unstoppable.” All tank heroes now take 30% less knockback and stun duration, and they remain immune to silence effects while using their ultimate abilities.
This change tackles a long‑standing complaint that tanks could be easily displaced or stunned out of their most impactful moments. Reinhardt can now Earthshatter without Ana immediately putting him to sleep. Winston can unleash Primal Rage without Sombra hacking him. Doomfist can Meteor Strike without being stunned mid‑air.
The passive also makes tanks feel more like, well, tanks. Knockback abilities like Lucio’s Soundwave or Pharah’s Concussive Blast now have significantly less impact, allowing tanks to hold their positioning against displacement-heavy compositions.
Here is the breakdown of the March 2026 patch changes:
| Category | Change | Details | Impact |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tank Passive | Unstoppable | 30% reduced knockback/stun duration, silence immunity during ults | High (game-changing) |
| Reinhardt | Barrier health increased | 1,400 → 1,600 HP | Medium (buff) |
| Winston | Barrier cooldown reduced | 13 seconds → 12 seconds | Medium (buff) |
| Doomfist | Power Block damage threshold reduced | 100 → 80 damage | High (buff) |
| Roadhog | Take a Breather healing reduced | 350 → 300 HP | Medium (nerf) |
| Kiriko | Protection Suzu invincibility reduced | 0.85 sec → 0.7 sec | Medium (nerf) |
| Map Updates | King’s Row, Dorado, Circuit Royal | Cover adjustments, spawn room tweaks | Low (QoL) |
Reinhardt: Barrier Health Increased
Reinhardt receives a significant buff to his barrier health, increasing from 1,400 to 1,600 HP . This change helps him withstand sustained poke damage, which has become increasingly common in the 5v5 format. The extra 200 HP allows Reinhardt players to be more aggressive with their positioning without fear of their barrier breaking mid-push.
Combined with the new tank passive, Reinhardt can now Earthshatter without being immediately disrupted, making him a much more reliable pick in compositions that rely on his ultimate to initiate fights.
Winston: Barrier Cooldown Reduced
Winston’s barrier cooldown has been reduced from 13 seconds to 12 seconds. This small but meaningful buff allows Winston to deploy his bubble more frequently, improving his survivability in dive compositions. The change also gives Winston more flexibility in peeling for backline teammates.
The timing of this buff aligns with the tank passive changes, making Winston more resistant to displacement abilities that previously could knock him away from his intended target.

Doomfist: Power Block Buff
Doomfist receives a significant buff to his Power Block ability. The damage threshold required to charge his empowered punch has been reduced from 100 to 80 damage. This means Doomfist can now charge his punch more consistently, particularly against heroes who deal lower but sustained damage.
The change also rewards aggressive Doomfist players who time their Power Block correctly in the middle of teamfights. With the new tank passive making him immune to silence during Meteor Strike, Doomfist is positioned to become a much stronger pick in the current meta.

Roadhog: Healing Nerf
The developers nerfed Roadhog’s Take a Breather ability, reducing healing from 350 to 300 HP. Consequently, this change aims to reduce Roadhog’s self-sustain, which has been a point of frustration for players who feel he can survive too long without support.
The nerf encourages Roadhog players to play more carefully and rely more on their supports for healing. Combined with the tank passive, Roadhog remains a threat but can no longer facetank entire teams while self-healing.

Kiriko: Protection Suzu Nerf
The developers reduced Kiriko’s Protection Suzu invincibility duration from 0.85 seconds to 0.7 seconds. This change targets one of the most powerful cooldowns in the game, which could previously negate almost any burst damage or ultimate with perfect timing.
The reduced duration means players must be more precise with their Suzu timing to save teammates. It also makes Kiriko slightly less oppressive against heroes like Junkrat, D.Va, and Reinhardt whose ultimates rely on burst damage.

Map Updates
Several maps received minor updates to improve gameplay flow. For example, King’s Row has additional cover added near the first attacker spawn, reducing the effectiveness of spawn camping. Meanwhile, Dorado has new high-ground access points near the second checkpoint. Finally, Circuit Royal has adjusted sightlines to reduce the effectiveness of long-range poke compositions.
Performance Improvements
Patch 10.5.0 includes several under-the-hood performance improvements. Frame rates on mid-range hardware have improved by approximately 5-10%, particularly in teamfight-heavy scenarios. The developers reduced load times for custom games and the practice range by approximately 15%.
